mathewjpallet: There's No Money!!! (Pochiyama)
I just recently noticed over on IndieReview that Hassan has written a review of sorts:

"Mathew J Pallet currently produces a regular anthology comic called Stir Fry Product. Heavily manga-influenced, and with just enough crazy to make it work, Mathew produces some very entertaining results.

His artwork is very fun, and obviously manga influenced. However, he does put his own twist on it, and creates some very nice and cool visuals throughout the pages of his comics. Although, some of his characters are drawn very similar, in Stir Fried Product you may notice on a few pages different characters have the same face almost, which can be slightly distracting. He an also show a bit of stiffness in his characters and poses, but his style and the artwork stand out beyond this.

There's some nice stories in the pages of Stir Fried Product, though some pages can become slightly confusing. The final story of Stir Fried Product is an example of some of the madness he employs, and in a few places it does end up halting the story a little. But elsewhere its fantastic, and makes the comics really stand out.

Mathew Pallet has a promising furute, and so do we because of it. His comics reek of madness and cool manga-style drawings, and they just work. He's suitably comfortable in his own style, and it shows through, and it does work. below you'll see some samples you should try out. If you're into a bit of madness in your comics, give him a go!"

The overtone is undeniably positive, although I'm slightly confused as to which characters look similar, besides the ones that are deliberate.

I sent a few review copies off to Silver Bullet a while back, but haven't heard anything from them, in fact every time I go to their site the whole browser freezes up.

You draw many, many panels and characters with the exact same pose (3/4 view, eye-level on) - there is little variation by using very few camera angles and you also use very similar expressions with all the characters. It's a positive note to work on, and in no way a negative, just something to look at.

The overall tone is highly positive, although he appears to have mis-spelt my surname, it appears as Pallet (to rhyme with Ballet) instead of Pallett.

Pffrrt, they left off one letter! So what ;) At least you have a surname that doesn't get spelt entirely different such as Walton or Watson, Whatson etc.

Honestly, this sounded like it was a real downer for you - don't let it be :D It's a good review, you've noting to feel 'blank' about...

I think he was pointing out the similarity between Anne XIII & Anne XIV who appeared briefly in SFP#1 wearing the Crossbone Combat Flightsuit. Their similarity is entirely intentional as they're both reconstructed from the same person who dies at the beginning of that chapter & was intended to be something of a Cliffhanger, like you'd find in those old Republic serials. Usually they'd show a scene where the protagonist is in jeapordy, but that wouldn't work well as I'd already killed people off at the start of the chapter.

While I was on the phone to the BT Call Centre on Monday the Technician got my name mixed up & thought it was Patel.

Hello Mathew, it's Hassan from IndieReview. Sorry for misspelling the name! I've corrected it now. When I said characters look the same, I meant what nekofairy666 said, and that in different segments some characters do look similar, just with a slight change of hair. It by no means makes the work bad, it's just something I noticed as I was reading. I did thoroughly enjoy reading the comics though, and I tried to put that across in the section about you.

I wasn't at all worried about the column, I've already noted that the overall tone was highly positive. It just seems as though I'm being overly negative rather than creating some amusing anecdotes (that won't make sense anymore) probably due to the fact that I've recently embedded trailers for Tokyo Majin (http://youtube.com/watch?v=iGDVLoX0D2c) & Hell Girl (http://youtube.com/watch?v=kupzyxY1rOY), which aren't exactly cheery seasonal spectacles.

But then Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol isn't spectacularly cheery either, yet TV companies always manage to place it into their schedules each year.
