I just learned about AOL Time Warners new foray into online publishing. While they publish DC Comics, Vertigo, Wildstorm & CMX they have never seemed interested in exploiting webcomics before. This appears to have changed with the imminent launch of Zuda Comics this October. 

Zuda Comics appears to be an online community that will allows users to create their own comics, the community itself being responsible for selecting who gets a paid one year contract.
